It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of Stephen Gaukroger, who passed away on 3 September 2023. Stephen was an eminent intellectual historian and historian of science who was an active member of the Society since its early years. Stephen was amongst those who, in 1994, encouraged our founder, Constance Blackwell, to transform the Foundation for Intellectual History into the International Society for Intellectual History (ISIH). Alongside Stephen Clucas, Stephen was founding editor of our journal, Intellectual History Review (IHR). Since stepping down as editor of the IHR, Stephen has been an active and encouraging member of the Society’s Advisory Board. Our thoughts are with Stephen’s family: his wife Helen, and his children Cressida and Hugh.
