It is with great sadness that we received news of the death of Letizia Panizza, on June 20th, following a protracted period of ill health. A founder member of the ISIH, Letizia was a distinguished scholar of Italian Renaissance Intellectual History. She won international recognition for her work on Renaissance Stoicism, Libertinism, and rhetoric and for her pioneering work on Women in Italian Renaissance intellectual culture. The scope of her scholarship and its inter-disciplinarily are well represented in the recent Festschrift in her honour, Liberty, Irreverence, and the Place of Women in Early Modern Italian Culture” edited by Stephen Clucas and Simone Testa (Springer 2025). She will be mourned by everyone who knew her personally or through her scholarly work.
